TRIPTO ISLAND OF BARRA JUNE 09

These two shots were taken from the Cal Mac ferry on the return trip.
One is of two Bottlenose Dolphins captured in very low light, and the other shows the approaching dusk over the southern outer Hebrides

As a professional photographer this trip to the southern outer hebrides was one I had been looking forward to.Firstly I like to take a trip around the island and soak up the energy and get a feel for whats possible ,and under what conditions ie morning or afternoon light etc.All the images taken on this trip were either on a Canon EOS1Ds Mk two (My son Tonys camera) or on my Canon EOS1Ds MK 3 We had a selection of lenses with us ranging from a 12mm Sigma lense,Canon 28-135 16-35mm 24 -105mm 14mm f2.8 70-200 f2.8 100-400mm lense.

TRIP TO THE ISLAND OF BARRA JUNE 09

Did you know that the island of Barra has the only airport with a runway thats submerged twice daily. Its strange to see the terminal buildings on the shore of Traigh Mhor a large expance of white sand which the planes land on at low tide.Barra has daily flights from Glasgow and this image shows the plane landing in a sea of spray. Also the airport terminal above.

TRIP TO THE ISLAND OF BARRA JUNE 09

This is another image of this lovely outer Hebridean island taken from the west coast at sunset which was different than where I live on the west coast of Argyll. From Barra there is no islands in view just the north atlantic ocean in mass.Like Tiree Barra has some beautiful white sand beaches.

TRIP TO ISLAND OF BARRA JUNE 09

At last I have finally been back to this lovely island in great conditions as part of an ongoing requirement to photograph the outer and inner Hebrides this year. If you follow my blog you will have noticed that I have already been to Mull and Tiree this year. You cant help but feel the friendlyness of the locals here as soon as you set foot on this small island .Here is an image I took of Castlebay the hub and atrium of Barra.

ULLAPOOL SUNSET WITH A DIFERENCE JUNE09

Another recent photograph that for me makes it all worth while, was this shot of a couple who I noticed sitting on a seat in Ullapool during the afterglow embers of a hazy sunset.
I chose to silhouette the couple using a 200mmf2.8 canon lense.I really am pleased with the result. This is my passion and photography is my life.Hope you like the shot. I love the sometimes pastel colours that often appear long after the sun has gone down.No filters were used.

Attacked by midges today june19th 09

Today was mostly spent processing and downloading images from jobs done over the last few days,Its raining again today (thats 3 days so far this week) but Hey the sun pops out now and then and we have had some great weather up until this week.

However, when it rains it also has its merits for picture taking so I headed off to a gorge I have discovered which should yield some good flowing water shots .Unfortunately:I suffered the worst midge attack EVER. They were in my eyes, ears, and mouth, and was simply bitten to death. It must have been the combination of rain, trees and warm air but I swore at them good and loud.I did get some good shots but just look at my Face!!

ISLAND OF KERRERA RECENT VISIT

Crossed over to Kerrera from ferry at Gallanach and enjoyed a pleasent walk down to the southern coastline where we arrived at Gylen castle drmatically situated upon puddingstone or (old red sandstone conglomerate)cliffs. My image shows this puddingstone in great detail with the castle perched on top.Well worth visiting with stunning views to the southwest. There is also a tearoom nearby which is very popular with walkers.
